Who can call themselves a 'Sport and Exercise Psychologist'?

Actress Sarah Niles plays Dr Sharon Fieldstone, the sports psychologist of the fictional football team AFC Richmond, in Apple TV's Ted Lasso.

'Sport and exercise psychologist' is a protected term in the UK.

To ensure that individuals are appropriately skilled and qualified, only practitioner psychologists who are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) can call themselves sport and exercise psychologists. The HCPC keeps a register of all individuals who are legally allowed to practise sport and/or exercise psychology, which can be checked on the HCPC website if you wish to work with a sport and exercise psychologist.
